Ah, the elusive perfect pair of jeans – is it just a myth or do they really exist? I know all too well how hard it can be to find a pair of jeans that fit properly, but I also know I’m not the only one out there with this dilemma! With so many styles, cuts and lengths, finding your dream jeans can be a nightmare! But fear not, here are some top tips on how to get closer to the Nirvana that is the ideal pair of jeans!
Apples & Pears
First of all, you have to know your body shape. Are you apple shaped (a little bit round), pear shaped (bigger around the thighs), hourglass (cinched at the waist but bigger around the bum), tall, short etc. Once you identify and know your body, it’ll make it easier to sift through those racks of jeans.
What Style Suits What Shape
Now that you know you’re shape, it’s time to see what tends to suit you best.
Petite – If you’re a little on the shorter side, skinny jeans tend to suit you better. They elongate the legs and make you appear that little bit taller.
Pear shaped – if you’re bigger around the bum and thighs than you are on the waist, go for a flared jean. The A-line cut will sit perfectly.
Apple shaped – for the fuller ladies among us, go for a subtle boot cut jean or the more traditional straight cut and pair them with a good set of heels.
Tall – wide-leg jeans look great on taller women. There aren’t that many shapes that can pull this cut off so count yourself lucky.
Hourglass – if you’re lucky enough to have the uber womanly hourglass figure go for low cut or hipster jeans and show off your curves!
If you find a pair of jeans that fit well, look good and are comfortable (and yes, it is possible) – then buy a second pair! You’ve gone through the ordeal of actually locating these jeans, so why not save yourself the hassle of having to do it again in a month’s time. Get a pair you can wear with heels and a pair you can wear with flats, that was you’re covered from all angles!
Try And Try And Try Again!
Don’t dismiss a pair of jeans by the way they look on the hanger. Just because you don’t think the cut will suit you doesn’t mean it’s true. It takes less than a minute to try them on and who knows, they could be your perfect match!
If you find a pair of jeans that you love and that fit you perfectly except for the length, bear in mind that you can get them altered. One piece of advice I’ll give on this though is to find a good tailor. There’s no point spending money on a gorgeous pair of jeans and never be able to show them off because the tailor has ruined the shape.
Take into account the cut on the ends of the jeans and see how taking them up will affect the look and the shape.
Mirror Mirror On The Wall
Fitting rooms, the mirrors in them and their lighting can sometimes be over flattering – and this isn’t done by accident! The best thing to have with you when you’re shopping for jeans is a good honest friend! They’ll tell you what a mirror won’t!
