These Article Guidelines form part of the HowGuides Website Contributors’ Terms (the `Terms`).
1. You must ensure that your article is grammatically correct. It must also have proper English, spelling, punctuation, capitalisation and sentence structure. Your article must also be double-checked and proof-read for accuracy. If English is your second language, we strongly advise that you have it proof-read by someone who has English as their native tongue prior to submission of your article.
2. You must ensure that your article follows the basic rules of punctuation, including the following: one space after each full-stop, colon, or semi-colon; full-stops should be inside of quotes; when doing `…` 3 dots must be used; when using dashes, use two in a row, e.g.: `–`; There is never a space before a full-stop or comma.
3. You must ensure that your article does not contain excessive and/or bolded keywords or phrases. Bolding is strictly limited to headings and subheadings.
4. We reserve the right to determine the topic category that your article is published under.
5. You must ensure that your article complies with the following set format:
a. Article Title:
i. Your Title Must Be in Upper and Lower Case Letters With the First Letter of Each Major Word Capitalised. We will not accept your title in all CAPS.
ii. We do not accept quotes at the top and tail of your title.
iii. Do not end your title with a full-stop.
iv. Please do not submit Microsoft Word smart quotes in your title. This includes quotes, apostrophe’s, double dashes, and 3 dots in a row. Replace smart quotes with standard quotes/apostrophe’s/double dashes/or 3 full-stops in a row.
v. Do not engage in excessive repetitive punctuation in your title. One exclamation `!` or question mark `?` is sufficient.
vi. We do not allow HTML tags in your title.
vii. Your title must begin with the first word flush to the left of the title submission box.
viii. Your author name and/or any website URLs are prohibited from being in your title.
ix. Your title must not be keyword stuffed (i.e. contain too many redundant keywords), but rather should read as a natural language title that any reasonable person could easily appreciate. Your title must not be over-optimised.
x. Prescription drug names are not allowed in the title of your article.
xi. A one word article title is not allowed. A minimum of two unique words is required.
xii. Slang terms or profanities in the title are not allowed.
xiii. Articles that do not deliver on the article title are not acceptable. You must deliver in the article content whatever promises were made in the article title.
xiv. Your title should be `keyword rich.` The first few words of your title determine the success of the article in terms of how much traffic your article will generate, so choose the first 3-4 words wisely.

ii. A Capital Letter must be used at the beginning of your First and Last name.
iii. Your author name cannot be a company name, email address, or url.
iv. Your author name cannot include adjectives, nouns, descriptors, or numbers.
v. You are not able to include your title after your author name unless you hold a doctorate (Dr., MD, DDS, PhD, etc.)
vi. Religious titles are not permitted either before or after your name.
vii. More than one account per person is not allowed. Creating multiple accounts could result in all of your accounts being removed and banned.
c. Article Body:
i. Must be a minimum of 350 words and no more than 4,000 words. An ideal article size is 400-700 words.
ii. Do not repeat your title and author name at the top of the article body – it will not be accepted.
iii. Copyrights are to be placed at the bottom of your article. We will move any copyrights to the bottom of the article body if you do not comply.
iv. If you include a `reprint rights` statement in your article, it must be placed at the bottom of your article. If you place it at the top, we will move it to the bottom.
v. We will not accept articles that have `reprint rights` statements that conflict with our posted Terms.
vi. The `resource box` is where you get to `sell / pitch` yourself and/or your web address. If you hard-sell in the article body by including your URL, product pitch or blatant self-promotion, we will remove your article without notice.
vii. We do not accept teaser links or phrases that require readers to click away from the article or reference another source in order to receive the full benefit of what has been promised in the article title.
viii. You must ensure that any lists are formatted correctly.
d. Website links / URLs:
viii. You acknowledge that we will reject any articles with direct affiliate links. It is acceptable however to forward or redirect to an affiliate link from the top level of a domain name you own.

ix. Valid URLs included in your resource box will be auto-formatted by us.

ix. URLs that are included in the body of your article will not be auto-formatted.
x. Your links are not permitted to contain a downloadable file of any type.
xi. We do not allow any URLs in any of our articles that are banned by Google. Secondly, if your website engages in any form of black-hat or questionable SEO practices – we may reject your articles.
xii. Articles that have the same active link more than once will not be accepted. Please do not submit duplicate URLs.
xiii. Articles that have strategic keyword anchor-text links in the body to your domain that fail to add informational value to the article will NOT be accepted. Please limit your anchor text-link length to 4 words.
xiv. We will reject your article if you put both of the active self-serving links that we allow in the body of your article.
xv. Articles with links to adult-oriented websites, including but not limited to websites that include pornography, adult-oriented sexual content will not be accepted.
xvi. Links to websites that are under construction will not be allowed.
xvii. We do not advocate including a mailto: or email link to your personal or work email account. It will attract spam. It’s far better to include a valid website URL and let prospective customers find your email address on your website.
Unlike the submission process pertaining to most major article directories, it is not mandatory to include your primary keywords/phrases in any article submission made to HowGuides. All articles will be reviewed by in-house editorial staff and keyword optimised in cases where keyword optimisation is deemed necessary i.e. where you have not done so yourself. Be sure to add the top keywords related to your article if you are familiar with Keyword optimisation as this will help us to bring more traffic to your article.
